Summer Outfit Idea: Tie-Waist Shorts
Photos by Catrina Earls Photography
I think perhaps the best thing about summertime is the simplicity that surrounds it. We find so much happiness in small moments, living easy with the ones we love. Grilling hamburgers in the backyard while the kids outside. Listening to the crickets hum their evening lullaby. The smell of sunscreen and chlorine after a long day spent at the pool. (Not that I'm romanticizing chlorine, but you get the idea.)
Summer style is no different in its brilliant ease. You don't have to overthink it to look cute and feel comfortable. Everything is -- and should be -- very wearable and versatile. On the surface, summer style may look sophisticated, but in reality, it's actually quite straightforward and...well...simple.
Which is why I love the tie-waist short trend (they're not really a trend though certainly popular). They're incredible flattering on the figure, defining your waist and showing just enough leg to not raise eyebrows. All you need is a basic top -- a tee, tank, or your favorite blouse -- and you're ready to roll. You can find tie-waist shorts in your favorite color, fabric, or print to suit your personal style. They're also a great option to wear with flat sandals in the daytime or with a pretty pump or wedge at night.
For today's 'easy outfit idea' post, I rounded up over 10 pairs of tie-waist shorts and paired each one with a pretty top for instant outfit inspiration! Whether you prefer easy solids or mixing your prints, there's a combination with your name on it.
COMBO 1
Let summer inspire your color palette with a French girl striped tee in green paired with petal pink shorts.
(also comes in blue, red, and navy)
COMBO 2
Blue and white are always right when it comes to a simple chic outfit. This boyfriend-fit slub cotton tee adds a casual vibe to these pinstripe shorts.
BLUE STRIPED SHORTS (just $30!)
COMBO 3
Perk up these go-with-everything khaki tie-waist shorts with a printed top. I love the classic look of a navy striped blouse in an updated off-the-shoulder silhouette with these shorts.
COMBO 4
When wearing a printed short, try wearing a top in one of the print's colors instead of always opting for a solid neutral. It adds more pop to your look! I love how the twist detail on the back of this top balances the bow on the front of the shorts.
COMBO 6
It doesn't get simpler than a t-shirt and shorts. Make it a little more exciting with a pretty color combination of light blue and pale pink.
COMBO 7
More fun with color! Pick compatible hues from the same color family to elevate your simple ensemble. The pink family is a great and easy one to start with, as are blues. The dusty rose of the tank blends well with the hibiscus pink of the shorts.
COMBO 8
Between the bold print and tiered design of the tropical shorts, it's wise to keep the top on the simpler side. The sweet flare sleeve adds just enough detail to keep it interesting.
COMBO 9
Fruit-themed prints are having their moment in the sun this season. I just LOVE how this adorable lemon print updates this button-up blouse. Paired with chambray shorts it's as classic and summery as can be!
COMBO 10
Earthy tones like gold and olive give a sense of summertime adventure...and they look great with a tan :) A loosely-knit sweater is great to have on hand for that post-sun chill, evening breezes, and cold ACs.
COMBO 11
The two most important rules for print mixing are choosing complimentary colors and keeping the prints on a similar scale. This floral cami with dark undertones blends beautifully with the dark check of the gingham shorts. The smaller florals balance with the checks and voila! Print mixing magic!
COMBO 12
The shimmer of these shorts makes them dressier than others. You can embrace the dressiness with a lacy top or dress them down with a preppy pink striped button-up blouse.
I hope this post provided you some extra outfit inspiration for the start of your summer! Thanks for stopping by The Tony Townie today -- I hope you have a wonderful day!
