A Red Letter Day

You know what I almost named this post? "Freezing in the name of fashion." OooooMmmmGgggg was it freezing with a capital F the day I took these photos. You have to do things like wear spring clothes in February when it's 40 degrees outside with a wind chill of 20 when you're a fashion blogger and your photographer is your husband whose availability is limited and you actually have a babysitter for once. This was the same weekend as the Southern Conference basketball tournament and boy if I had a dollar for every fan who walked by looking at me like 'is she crazy?' Yes. Yes, that day I was crazy.

Now we're in March and aside from the weekly Wednesday snow storm we're getting here in the 828, it's basically time to start transitioning our closets over to spring. I can't wait to start wearing dresses all the time. Nothing is easier or quicker to put on than a pretty dress for just about any occasion, casual or fancy. What's more, a lovely tea dress is one piece that can pull off both everyday and elevated styles with equal panache.

So what's a tea dress? Essentially it's a midi dress, with a hemline that hits below the knee and above the ankle. It originated as an informal entertaining dress with unstructured lines in easy fabrics. Think of it as sweet, dainty, romantic. You may want to stroll through a garden in one...or chase your kid through it. Tea dresses are one of those fashionable yet functional garments; they're easy to move around in, fairly covered up without appearing prudish, and lovely to look at.

And even Rachel Zoe said you need one for spring. That makes it officially official. Since tea dresses are 100% happening I've rounded up a few of my affordable faves to shop for spring! (You can click either the image or the text for details!)

One more note on my straw tote. Straw bags in general are the new "it" bag of spring and summer. From round shoulder bags to larger totes to tasseled clutches, they're THE bag to accessorize your warm weather wardrobe. My bag is actually like 15 years old from the Gap (hoarding bags can actually pay off if you're patient LOL) but I found two exact replicas HERE and HERE (this one is much more affordable but slightly smaller).

Exact details on my look linked below -- my dress just went on sale for under $40!

Hope you're having a great week so far! We're currently in 'will it/won't it' snow very much mode. Fingers crossed it doesn't and school isn't canceled haha!

Have a wonderful day!
