Midweek Musings: July 4th
Good morning! Hope everyone enjoyed a particularly patriotic July Fourth weekend! We celebrated with our combined families all in town to witness Harlow's baptism. All. The. Tears. Our church has a YouTube channel (!) and we've watched the service over and over. On the actual fourth we did American things like eat burgers, drink beer, and watch fireworks! True story: I initially ordered a salad for lunch, felt terribly un-American, then switched my order to a cheeseburger. And you know I got fries.
Anyhoo, short week due to the holiday so it's already time for a few musings, broodings, and check-these-outs.
MOMMIN' AIN'T EASY
I realllllly miss reading, but I just can't find the time. I've been trying to finish Baby Led Weaning for over a month. Looking for A) tips on how to squeeze in some book time, and B) any books that are real page-turners! Comment below or shoot me an email.

Yet another cannonball fired at Disney, blaming their cadre of princesses for low self-esteem in our daughters. Buried at the bottom of the article is the takeaway: engage your children in a variety of activities, only one of which are the princesses. Revolutionary. Once again, we're reminded that how you parent is the real difference-maker in raising well-rounded children.
It's almost Olympics time! Anyone else obsessed with women's gymnastics like I am? Sounds like US gymnast Simone Biles is a force to be reckoned with. Some analysts forecast her to win gold medals in every category she competes in. U-S-A! U-S-A!
Some less exciting news coming out of Rio: the police officers are standing in the airport holding signs reading "Welcome to Hell." The government isn't paying them, they're not working, so they're basically saying 'enter at your own risk.' Someone somewhere in Sochi is cheering.
EAT & DRINK
Holy smokes, this grilled peach salad is crazy good. We served it as a side to grilled salmon and OMG yummmm!
Not to be outdone, this Mexican Grilled Shrimp Caesar Salad is a bowl-licker. Don't skip the toasted pepitas, BTW!
Here's hoping Barnes & Noble's new "libraries with bars" concept takes off. To all the citizens of the four towns in which they're testing it out: don't mess it up for the rest of us.
SHOP
How cool is this metal trivet spelling out some of the major cities of the world? Want!
Topshop, oh how you tempt me! This floral cold shoulder wrap dress is so romantic, and this tasseled, star-embroidered tank is calling my name.
Usually not a monogram person, but every once in a while I see something that sways me, like these monogrammed sunnies.
QUOTE OF THE DAY
"Close the door. Write with no one looking over your shoulder. Don't try to figure out what other people want to hear from you; figure out what you have to say. It's the one and only thing you have to offer." ~ Barbara Kingsolver
