Weekend Things
Friday, Friday, Gettin' on down on Friday! We made it! It was a good week, a productive one, but the whole poison ivy thing has certainly thrown me for a curve! I'm headed to Bella Solé Studio to get my tan on for this busy busy weekend (more on that below!). The owner, Leah, told me airbrush tanning can actually be helpful in drying out some of the poison ivy rash so yay, bonus! Afterwards Harlow and I are meeting up for our weekly lunch with my grandmother, and then running errands to continue prepping for my big blog shoot tomorrow. Flowers, balloons, bubbly...all so fun!
Today's 'Weekend Things' round-up is chock full o' spring fashion and fun! I'm sharing a ton of affordable spring clothes and shoes, plus some awesome recipes and informative reads on parenting toddlers. Hope this helps you get through 'til quittin' time!
GOINGS ON
I'M GONNA BE ON TV! Set your alarm (or your DVR haha!) to catch my take on Oscar Fashion this Sunday on News 13 WLOS between 6-8:00 AM. I'll be coming at ya from Engaged Studios every half hour during that two-hour segment to dish on the dresses we love to see come down the red carpet! I can't wait!
Work work work work work. Mike and I are loading up the rig with lots of outfits and props to do a massive blog photo shoot downtown this Saturday! I'll be popping up at Capella on 9 and Bartaco while I'm down there so say hello if you're out and about!
Blue Ghost Brewing Company is celebrating their second anniversary with a big party this weekend! Lots of new beer, new merch, and tunes to enjoy while you sip! We love this brewery because it has a HUGE outside area for kids to run around in, plus a kids area inside with games, coloring books, and the like.
SPRING STYLE ON A BUDGET
This week I started buying new pieces for spring and I found some awesome deals!
Step-hem jeans are a fun way to make your flats (or kitten heels if that's how you roll) a little more interesting. I got these jeans from Gap on sale for under $30!
This pair from Nordstrom is really popular among the blogger circuit and cost just $45! I love the medium wash and how they're only slightly distressed.
I've been eyeing a pair of colorful block heels to wear with jeans and dresses and after a lot of research and price comparisons I went with these cute ruffled heels! They come in three colors, cost just $35, and are very similar to a designer pair that costs 10 times as much. I got the red and plan on wearing them with jeans and a French blue stripe shirt.
A great piece for spring is a lightweight button-front blouse you can wear with just about anything! Gingham is trendy again this year and I love the pretty fuchsia color of this print instead of the typical navy. This shirt is just $45 and comes in several other prints, too! I would wear this with a denim skirt or white jeans.
Speaking of denim skirts, I just ordered this one -- fingers crossed it fits! I love how cute a denim skirt makes a simple t-shirt look without the awkward fit of shorts to worry about haha! This skirt comes in regular, petite, and tall sizes and is just $40.
I love the romantic vibes of a pretty lace top. It can be such a fun piece to dress up for work or night time, or down with jeans. I love the dramatic sleeves of this top so much! It rings in right under $70 so it's not a crazy good deal but still a good price for such a pretty top.
Give me ALL the t-shirt dresses! They're the perfect piece to throw on and accessorize with a long necklace or scarf, and finish with sneakers. While there's still a chill in the air I'll layer a boyfriend cardigan over this. I really like the roll sleeve, too. It just adds to the casual-cool vibe. And oh yeah -- this is just $24!
Okay. Y'all. I am a sandal addict. I love picking up new sandals every spring to update the pieces in my closet from last season (or the season before that...). How cute are these?? And what's more, they're designed by Ellen Degeneres. They also come in yellow.
RECIPES
Is cauliflower the most versatile vegetable of all time or what? This recipe for General Tso's cauliflower sounds so good! Maybe a good Meatless Monday idea?
My name is Brooke and I'm a ramen addict. Time to update that college ramen recipe with these 17 homemade ramen soup ideas.
Paging 1993. I made this linguine and shrimp scampi recipe by Ina Garten this week and it was suuuper yummy! Even better -- it's really quick and easy. And pairs well with a crisp glass of white wine!
MOMMY READS
I'll admit, I'm not the most creative mom when it comes to whipping up fun at-home activities to keep my toddler entertained. But according to this article on eight ways to have fun with your toddler, it doesn't take heavy Pinteresting and half of Michaels craft store to amuse and educate your little one!
I loved reading Bringing Up Bebe and apparently this book on German parenting is getting rave reviews all around! The part that caught my eye was their emphasis on self-reliance and preparing their children for life. Because helicopter parenting is a mistake IMO (even though I'm sometimes guilty of it!).
Confession: I need the TV to babysit Harlow, especially when I'm trying to cook or get dressed. This list of the best pre-school TV shows by Common Sense Media is a handy resource for weeding out the mindless junk for educational programming.
Okay y'all, hope you're having the happiest Friday and looking forward to a great weekend! I'll be posting my weekend goings-on in my IG Stories throughout the next couple of days, including a behind-the-scenes look before I go live on TV! Eek! I'm so nervous...I've been brushing up on my fashion designer pronunciation just to be extra extra sure I don't slip up haha!
See y'all soon!
